Lorna Gibb was born in Belshill, North Lanarkshire,
Scotland. In 2013 she wrote a memoir about the early
part of her life which was published in Granta
She worked as a dancer in her teens before going to
London University. Afterwards she continued her
studies at Edinburgh University where she completed
her PhD. She has had a variety of jobs, both within
and outside of academia, and in several countries including Qatar, Italy and France, but most have involved writing in some form or another.
Since 2010 Lorna, her husband and their three rescue cats have lived in North London where she lectures part time at University while working on her books. She is the author of biographies of Lady Hester Stanhope (Faber and Faber) and Dame Rebecca West (Pan MacMillan and Counterpoint in the US). Her first novel 'A Ghost's Story' was published on the 5th November 2015. She is currently working on a second book for Granta which is part memoir, part global consideration of 'Childlessness'.
